Life

in Balance

Welcome

Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force...When we are listened to, it creates us, makes us unfold and expand, ideas actually begin to grow within us and come to life...When we listen to people there is an alternating current, and this recharges us so that we never get tired of each other...and it is this little creative fountain inside us that begins to spring and cast up new thoughts and unexpected laughter and wisdom....Well, it is when people really listen to us, with quiet fascinated attention, that the little fountain begins to work again, to accelerate in the most surprising way. - Brenda Ueland

As a practical and compassionate  therapist, my goal is to provide a comfortable and safe place for you to explore the difficulties and challenging feelings you are having. You may know exactly what it is that you need help with or you may simply know something just isn't feeling right and you are unable to make changes alone. I want to help you.

I wish I could say that the process of making those changes is as simple as it is to write. It isn't but with commitment and the right therapist it can be enriching, life changing and empowering. My practice focuses on counseling for Depression, Anxiety, Life's transitions and Low self esteem. The work I do ranges from working with young adults in their twenties who encounter depression and anxiety as they are looking for independence yet connection with their families to  exploring midlife issues that take us by surprise and leave us feeling paralyzed and in the muck of inertia and depression.   I work with  adults as they negotiate their lives after children, during career changes or after divorce.

I offer counseling for couples who  are  facing difficulties in their commitments or marriages as well as pre-commitment,  pre/marital counseling for couples who are engaged and want to clear the way for a healthy open relationship. I  am experienced with  and welcome couples who are gay and lesbian.

I highly value the experience of being able to move freely between the light and the shadow sides of our lives and joining with a therapist will aid you in  doing that with less fear.  Life throws us unexpected challenges. I believe there is a life force in us that will carry us through when we are reminded how to access it. When we can keep our fingers on the pulse of our purpose and stay open to wondering about what it all means and letting those questions be as important as finding the answers,  life is expanded. Good therapy will not only help you embrace the philosophical questions about the meaning of your life but also give you a tool box of skills that will be useful and accessible.
